On the podcast today, we check in with Director of Global Macro, Jurrien Timmer. Jurrien speaks about the latest market moves, how he is maneuvering through the current market cycle, and what investors should be looking out for.  With the fiscal quarter coming to an end, Jurrien says that he considers earnings to be a frontline indicator of the overall economy’s health. Earnings for 2023 are expected to decline by 3%, but he explains to host Pamela Ritchie that inflation has masked certain market weaknesses.  Jurrien says that while it remains difficult to determine whether we’re in a bull or bear market, the S&P and the equal weighted index have retraced around 64% and 61 to 62% respectively, suggesting a potential transition from a bear market rally to a new bull market.
