Episode 28 of Feel Free to Deviate features Janelle Stone. Janelle is and Associate in Training at Orton-Gillingham Academy. As their website says, “The Orton-Gillingham Approach is a direct, explicit, multisensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive way to teach literacy when reading, writing, and spelling does not come easily to individuals, such as those with dyslexia.” Janelle also tells me about how she started her career in the fashion industry working as a fabric specialist with music/fashion mogul/impresario Sean ”Puffy” Combes and also the founding fathers of fancy pants, Brooks Brothers. Big pivots from P-Diddy to reading kiddies. Good stuff.
You should go to https://ortonacademy.org for more information and resources. It sounds like they are doing good work.
