The guest on episode 11 of Feel Free to Deviate is Melissa Woods. She runs Trued Apparel, which is a sustainably sourced fashion company that caters to goths. Well, not exclusively goths, but to anyone who likes to wear comfortable women’s clothing that is predominantly available in black. Melissa was a student at Wellesley College when I worked there, and I think she’s the first millennial guest on the show. Like many other guests on Feel Free to Deviate she has an art background, but she offers a fresh perspective as someone who is in an earlier stage of her career. We talk about graduating from college during the Great Recession, her day jobs, and how she views Trued Apparel as both a business and an artistic endeavor. We also talk about guitars, horror movies, sub-cultures, and music, so I hope you dig that stuff, too.
