In honor of Black History Month, we wanted to explore the intersection between race and media as independent content creators. We were thrilled to speak with Venida C. Rodman Jenkins about cultural humility and the important role it plays in creating a more empathetic and honest experience in the creative arts. Venida is the Director of the Speicher-Rubin Women’s Center for Equity and Diversity at New Jersey City University. She also teaches a “Race, Gender, and the Media” course at Newhouse NYC at Syracuse University and is the founder and pastor of EMBRACE Church. As a minister, educator, and advocate for many years, she is committed to creating affirming and brave spaces for those who have been oppressed. Her desire is to persist until all people are seen, heard and free.
