Mini-discussion: Would You Rather: Poe and BB-8 edition.
Poe Character Dissection:

When we meet Poe he is on a mission to find Luke Skywalker.

Leia trusts him above everyone else to accomplish this.
We see that Poe cares a lot about people - how he treats Lor San Tekka, BB-8, and his concern for the villagers.

Immediately, we get a sense for Poe’s wit with “Who talks first? You talk first, I talk first?”
Torture with Kylo:

Kylo is very powerful, but we get a good picture of Poe’s dedication to the Resistance and to doing the right thing.

Meeting Finn:

Immediate trust to follow this First Order trooper he just met. Poe’s life is in Finn’s hands.
Gives Finn his name.

Determined to finish his mission even at risk of death.
Really disappears from the movie for a while, but when he comes back, we see Oscar Isaac’s description fulfilled: the best freakin' pilot in the galaxy.
He’s just a nice guy - he has the entire package to basically be another Han - great pilot, funny, good looking - but instead is a loyal and committed Resistance fighter through and through who genuinely believes in good and evil and doesn’t show that there’s any part of him that is a “gray” character. 
Blows up Starkiller base - joining the group of Luke, Lando, Wedge, and Nein Nunb as people who blew up evil giant lasers.

BB-8 Character Dissection:

BB-8 is the first new hero that we meet in the movie.
Strong connection with Poe.

Relationship between them.
