Showrunners Moshe Zonder (Fauda, Loners) & Dana Eden  (Yom Haem, Magpie) bring to the United States the Israeli espionage series Tehran to Apple TV+.

Tehran follows a young Mossad operative named Tamar (Ziv Sultan), who goes on her first assignment in her native Iran. Tamar is a Mizarhi Jew that grew up in Israel and now deals with the struggles of being a stranger in her homeland, while staying true to her mission.

Zonder and Eden create a tremendously powerful series, humanizing every character in the show, making a clear distinction that people are their core are virtually identical everywhere even when governments are warring with one another.

In the pilot episode (which we discuss during the interview), Tamar and taxi driver witness an unpleasant site and share a personal moment during tragedy. I even share a personal story with them about a flight I experienced that was quite similar to two of the young characters on their own journey, which left me tense for a 16-hour flight to the Middle East on my trip to Jerusalem for Easter in 2018.

Zonder and Eden took six years to complete this project from its initial inception, filming on location between Greece and Israel. There was a rumor that they had filmed in Jordan, but that was just a rumor that we had cleared up.

What makes Tehran so interesting is not just the incredible ensemble cast, but that each nation feels they are doing what is best for their own society in trying to preserve their way of life, even with those ideologies being diametrically opposed.

Tehran is an exceptional series with an extraordinary cast that after only eight episodes, I long for 20 more! Eden hints at a continuation of the series I am more than hopeful for it. Check out what they had to say in our interview above.

Tehran begins streaming today, September 25, 2020 on Apple TV+.
