Bay Area Native and Queer Identifying, Egyptian-American Actor, Amin El Gamal talks about his new movie, Breaking Fast available today on VOD.

El Gamal, a native of Palo Alto, CA is more than just his identifiers. He earned two BAs at Stanford University before progressing to the USC School of Dramatic Arts, where he graduated with an MFA in acting in 2011. Now, he follows his performing dreams and does so well in Breaking Fast as Sam, who pushes his DOCTOR, extra emphasis on DOCTOR friend Mo (Haaz Sleiman) into meeting Kal (Michael Cassidy) at a party he is hosting in West Hollywood during the Islamic Holy Month of Ramadan.

Official Synopsis:

Set against the twinkling lights of West Hollywood, Breaking Fast is a romantic comedy that follows Mo, a practicing Muslim still reeling from heartbreak. When an All-American guy named Kal offers to join him in his nightly Iftars --the traditional meal eaten by Muslims during Ramadan-- meal after meal, the two start to discover they have more in common than meets the eye.

El Gamal and I chatted over the phone about the film, his Salwa Baza, who was a child actor in Egypt and if that had any influence on him entering the arts.

We also discuss if there is a more polite term for homosexuals and homosexuality now used in the Arab World as the ones we grew up with once translated to English are far less than favorable language.

Sam may be the comic relief in Breaking Fast but has some of the strongest and most important life lessons to share with Mo throughout the film, which is sometimes far more important that the joke itself.

Breaking Fast is available today on VOD.
