It’s “Face Your Fears Week” on this blazingly fast-paced, pulse-pounding, edge of your seat, thrilling segment of Fabulous Film & Friends where my sister Roseanne and I are going to watch a film that we’ve been putting off since it came out in 1985, Andrei Konchalovsky’s Runaway Train starring Jon Voight and Eric Roberts.

Joining me again are teacher, thinker,  anti-horseplay activist and action movie nut, Roseanne Caputi. And later in the segment for color commentary is the toughest, surliest, most pugnacious performer this side of the Russian River, GORDON ALEX ROBERTSON!

Before we tear into it: a synopsis!

Runaway Train follows the exploits of two violent convicts, Manny Manehim and Buck McGeehy , as they bust out of Alaska’s Stonehaven Maximum Security Prison --which is overseen by the hard-nosed and unforgiving Warden Ranken. Evading their pursuers, Manny and Buck stow away on what they think is the relative safety and privacy of  a train hauling four locomotive engines. Immediately however, the train’s engineer collapses from a heart-attack  and falls from the train, causing the locomotive to pick up speed and a go out of control. With Warden Ranken in hot pursuit, Manny, Buck, and the only other person on the train, a tough but beautiful engine wrangler named Sarah, desperately scramble for ways out of their collision course with certain doom.

Were we right to fear and put off seeing this film?
