Today’s guest on Extraordinary Women is Dorie Clark, author of Entrepreneurial You, Stand Out and Reinventing You.

After being on the talking circuit for her book Stand Out, speaking around the world on how to become a thought leader and recognized expert, Dorie had an epiphany that led to her next book, Entrepreneurial You. She realized that being a thought leader wasn't sufficient - you have to learn to monetize that high repute.

While she still believes that it is essential in today's modern economy to build a brand as a recognized leader in our field so that we're not a commodity, she knew there was more to building a successful business. So she set out to talk to 50 leading entrepreneurs on the subject.

What Dorie learned from those interviews, was there's not one way - people are succeeding in a lot of ways. The key, however, is that they have multiple income streams. The entrepreneurs that she spoke to had mastered the skill of managing multiple income streams, which provided resiliency in the downturns, and provided much more upside.

As Dorie shares in our interview, "If you want to solve a problem, ask a lot a people." Dorie did that, and then she applied that to her own business. By applying the techniques she learned in writing Entrepreneurial You, Dorie brought an additional $193,700 of revenue in the same year she wrote the book.

This interview is a must for entrepreneurs interested who are ready to take their business to the next level. We talk about building a business aligned to who you are, best practices in building online courses, transition and more. Dorie has so much wisdom to share.

Dorie is an adjunct professor at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and the author of Entrepreneurial You, Reinventing You and Stand Out, which was named the #1 Leadership Book of 2015 by Inc. magazine. A former presidential campaign spokeswoman, the New York Times described her as an “expert at self-reinvention and helping others make changes in their lives.”

A frequent contributor to the Harvard Business Review, Dorie consults and speaks for clients including Google, Microsoft, and the World Bank. She is also a producer of a multiple Grammy-award-winning jazz album. You can download her free Entrepreneurial You self-assessment workbook and learn more at dorieclark.com/entrepreneur.
