After piecing together the Black Dahlia’s nomadic lifestyle, the potential suspects fade away leaving the investigators at an impasse. During the 1940s, a dark alliance formed between the Los Angeles Police Department and organized crime families. LAPD officers, motivated by financial gains and power, turned a blind eye to the mob’s criminal enterprises in exchange for bribes and protection. In 1946, Elizabeth Short returned to this dark time just prior to her demise. The sordid corruption had significant implications for the investigation into the unsolved case of the Black Dahlia.
