Who does your team naturally follow? Make a point of observing this without assuming that you already know. Then consider mentoring or training that natural leader with so much more to offer.

Welcome to Ever Better Today: the daily podcast for creating your optimal business, career, or overall life in ten minutes or less. I’m Lisa Conners Vogt, Executive and Leadership Coach and founder of Ever Better Coaching and Consulting. Let’s jump in!

-----------------------------------------------

How to determine who your team follows?

Observe who they listen to in a meeting. Find out who they take cues from. Check who they tend to look to when a question arises. Be aware of your personal biases that may lead you to assume that you already know who your natural leaders are.

Now that you’ve identified your leader, what happens next?

Consider developing that person as a leader more proactively. Find a way to involve them in higher-level meetings. Explore ways you can introduce them to people who are more senior and who can broaden their views. Train them so they can get a more well-rounded or more in-depth perspective about a certain topic
