Loyal listeners of this podcast probably know that Kaitlyn is our resident ESG fashionista! She is passionate about correcting the impact that textiles are having on the environment. Only 15% of textiles are reused; only 1% are recycled from textile to textile. Listen as Kaitlyn and Peter discuss the circular economy as it pertains to textiles, and the solutions that Circ is infusing into this industry. Peter discusses that molecular breakdown of textiles to illustrate the sustainability challenges that are unique to the fashion industry. He also speaks to the need for a better process to collect clothing to be recycled and the importance of the introduction of technologies to scale this effort. This episode will make you more mindful about the process to manufacture your clothes, and how to recycle what you no longer wear. Retailers are picking up on the fact that consumers want to purchase clothes that align with their values, and we should reward brands that are doing the right thing. On exciting note, learn of the recent Circ collaboration to launch the first line of clothing made from polycotton waste!
