Julie Hayes is an expert engagement and communications strategist who has successfully delivered utility driven, energy conservation solutions for multifamily, residential, and commercial customers on the west coast and in the southeast. Her secret sauce resides in a strong ability to pull a compelling story out of very complex, technical information and then use that story to engage clients, colleagues and consumers in committing to innovative strategies that result in positive change. Julie is also a former comedy screenwriter, a professional level equestrian and a karaoke connoisseur. 

Julie: I am an expert engagement and communications strategist, master facilitator, and project manager who has successfully delivered utility driven, demand side management solutions for multifamily, residential, and commercial participants on the west coast and in the southeast. My secret sauce resides in a strong ability to pull a compelling story out of very complex, technical information and then use that story to engage clients, colleagues and customers in developing innovative strategies that result in measurable change. My work has focused on energy efficiency program design and implementation for multifamily properties, software solutions for low-income rate-payers and facilitating state funded technology transfer opportunities in California.



As a team member for Milepost Consulting, I lead the design and implementation of the first Strategic Energy Management (SEM) program in the US for multifamily customers on behalf of Washington's largest Investor Owned Utility. This pilot resulted in actual energy savings and increased participation in existing energy efficiency programs and has been replicated in Tennessee and California. I spent 9+ years providing strategic support to the Residential energy efficiency group of the Southeast's largest wholesale utility. This work included the design and launch of a highly successful, home energy management program now offered in 7 states by 153 local electric utilities.



Non-utility engagement projects include supporting Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s office and city officials to produce World Wildlife Fund’s Earth Hour, engaging famous LA landmarks, restaurants and residents to turn lights off for one hour.
