The Thompson fire continues to burn in Butte County, California, as a heat wave sets in across the western United States. Officials ordered more than 28,000 people to evacuate on July 3, and Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency for the area. Authorities say the fire has burned more than 3,500 acres—with zero containment.
