Ladies Under Construction Mentoring Girls, with Aleanya Moore

Aleanya Moore

Founder & CEO of Ladies Under Construction

In today’s episode of Entelechy Leadership Stories, we have the privilege of speaking with an inspirational young leader Aleanya Moore. Aleana is driven by a purpose that is more than a mission, it is her legacy she is seeking to leave – change the trajectory of her bloodline and sprinkle belief and hope to disenfranchised youth so they are empowered to do the same. She is the Founder of Ladies Under Construction. She was the Youth Chairperson for Indianapolis NAACP and Speaker at the 2012 NAACP Youth Summit. She has won the Indianapolis Mayor Community Service Award and is also the author of Through My Lens.

Aleayna raised by her grandmother in a low-income housing complex faced many troubling situations during her childhood including being a fatherless child, having a mother on drugs, along with not understanding or valuing her worth. During high school, she became involved in her school’s basketball team working closely with her coach Mr. Alto King. Mr. King recognized her potential and pushed her into a more positive direction in life. Aleanya decided she would be the first in her family to go to college and pursue a degree.

Her belief in herself combined with the support of her village has given way to a life of service that supports youth today by founding Ladies Under Construction a mentoring program for young schoolgirls ages 8 to 18. The foundation's mission is to provide leadership development programs, etiquette training, and character development support to organizations serving school-age girls.

Aleayna guides young women by being real and relatable to become who they are meant to be by offering the following:

All ladies are always under construction and never complete. No one is perfect and it is ok to not be perfect.Everyone is growing and becoming the person they are meant to be. Growth is continual.  Allow grace and patience for yourself.Build your foundation – a foundation of principles.Self-Esteem development and understanding who you are.Have the right character. It takes a village.Your village is your resources and support that can enhance and cultivate that growth aspect within you.

Aleayna’s biggest contribution and impact are leaving each young woman with an ounce of belief and hope.

“No matter where you come from or where you are at you can be that change”. “A pivot for me was the fact that my basketball coach actually cared. My basketball coach taught me basketball and also life skills.”“They provided me with resources and exposure. Sprinkled a belief and hope even if I have not seen certain things and I may not think I can become something, once I was given that foundation that disciple strength and encouragement and support along the way I could be something I never had to change the trajectory of my bloodline.”
