195. Celebrating Your Anniversary is Vital for Your Stepfamily

If you have been divorced, you have the gift of understanding how precious marriage is. You know how a relationship can go from good to bad and what factors contribute to that. You know the pain of that fall out for everyone involved. 

On our 2nd anniversary a divorced woman gave us this advice…“Never stop doing this, keep making it a priority to date each other and going on getaways like this.” She had so much regret in her voice. Those words took root in our hearts that day and we lived by them. Every year we made it a priority even if it meant sending the kids to grandparents and having a staycation because it was all we could afford. 

Other years we saved for months, even a year to go on a big trip. 

A successful first marriage is hard enough, the odds of a second marriage succeeding is even worse. 

The point is, prioritize alone time together every year to celebrate such a HUGE achievement, you both earned it!
