Jeff Dennis, managing director and general counsel for the Advance Energy Economy and Advanced Energy Buyers group, discusses the need for organized competitive wholesale power markets across the country as a pre-requisite for meeting the Biden administration's goal of a zero-carbon grid by 2035. The organization that includes leading information technology giants like Google, Microsoft and Facebook also supports smart government spending in support of private investment to build out the transmission grid that will be needed to access low-cost, abundant renewable energy resources in remote areas. However, Dennis does not believe there is the political will to reform state-level retail markets in line with the Texas retail power model supported by many podcast speakers.
