In this episode I do something I rarely do in my journalism: interview a good friend. I first met Janet Annesley around 2010 when she was the VP of communications for CAPP, the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers. Over the years, while she was employed in a variety of very interesting jobs, including as chief of staff to Canada’s natural resources minister, I’ve watched the arc of her career bend toward the energy transition and the climate crisis. Now, as chief sustainability officer for Alberta-based Kiwetinohk Energy, she has become a leading voice for change within the Canadian oil and gas industry.
