Correction: I mentioned that I had not had a Black male educator in college. This is an error. I had one. Dr. Gilman Whiting, (Associate Professor of African American and Diaspora Studies, Director of the Scholar Identity Institute, Director of Graduate Studies) was the instructor for an elective seminar entitled "Capoeira: Afro-Brazilian Race, Culture, and Expression" from which I learned much.
