Courage for the Next Step

Matthew 14:28-33

Synopsis: What does a church do in celebration of its 110th anniversary after the Homecoming?  I believe it’s time to ask God for Courage for the Next Step.  Do you remember the story of Peter stepping out on faith (Matthew 14:22-33)?  I know he didn’t get very far, but he got farther than anyone else in the boat.

It is easy enough for churches, like people, to get so comfortable with the way things are that they will not step out on the faith that started them on the journey in the first place.  Courage, as you know, is the work of the Holy Spirit.

Believers always stand in need of a fresh realization of the power and presence of Christ Jesus in our lives.  Christ walking with us often beckons us to follow Him into unfamiliar places and maybe unfamiliar ways.  Believer must trust the power and presence of Christ to sustain them and if need be to rescue us.  We need a fresh experience of the grace of God in Christ Jesus that lifts us up and sets out course.
