Imagine being in law enforcement at the time when it went from “policewoman” to “police officer.” Or being an African American female in the NYPD. Maureen served for 33 years in law enforcement in New York City. She served on a special unit created to deal with corruption and sex abuse in the NYC School System and her “specialty” was working in the DA’s office working directly with sex crimes. Maureen will share with us her stories, strategies, and suggestions for women entering a predominantly male work environment and how she made it all work during 33 years in law enforcement.

BIO: Maureen Spencer served 33 years in law enforcement. She worked for the NYPD beginning in 1973 for 20 years. She was promoted to Detective and her specialty was working in sex crimes and as a liaison to the DA’s office. She worked in the office of the special commissioner of investigation – a unit set up to deal with corruption and sex abuse in the NYC Public School System – which she headed up for seven years. Maureen worked with the State Inspector General as a Deputy Inspector General for five years. She brings years of wisdom and knowledge from the field of law enforcement and inspires women to be true to themselves!
