You will find no more important book than the epistle to the Hebrews to see the divine connection between the Old Testament and the New Testament, or the Old Covenant and New Covenant. (See Hebrews 1:1-2)

The purpose of this letter was to encourage Hebrew Christians who were tempted continuously to attach too much significance to the Jewish ceremonial observances. The keyword for this powerful epistle is “better”. It is used 13 times in 12 verses, and the focus was to show that the old ceremonies have served their purpose, but now there are better things. (See Hebrews 8:6)

Those earthly structures and practices were only meant to point to the better things coming. Those things not yet revealed. For us to have those better things, abetter sacrifice was necessary, and Christ became the better sacrifice becoming our means to better things. Through His death, Christ became our mediator or our guarantee to this new agreement made by God for these better things. (See 1 Timothy 2:5-6) It is only through the death of Christ that we can access these better things. (See Hebrews 10:19-22)
