The depiction of homosexuality in Sailor Moon, even though censored, remained groundbreaking and wasn't fully covered by its censorship.
Luna remains one of the best characters in any version of the franchise. Part "wisened mentor", part "helpful sidekick", this little black cat is so much more than a "magic pet". In one of the OVA movies, she was not only made human, but wished into life as Princess Kaguya.
Sailor Moon Crystal has fans and detractors, but at the least, it has massively rekindled interest in the franchise. You can watch it at Hulu or CrunchyRoll.
