On this episode we talk with Donald Bell. Don is a member of the first “out” generation of LGBTQ+ seniors and has a deep commitment to social justice. Born in the 1950's, Don discusses what life was like before, during, and after Stonewall. Don also speaks on the intersectionality of both race and gender as it pertains to the LGBTQ+ community and beyond.
Other topics discussed include the 2 pandemics the first "out" generation have experienced (HIV/AIDs and Covid-19) and how there are connections between the two; as well as LGBTQ+ history, what the word "queer" means to different generations of people, and the need for society to start coming together for the betterment of all.
Don is a native Chicagoan. He has spent his professional career in higher education administration/student affairs a founding member and past president of the Association of Campus Activities Administrators. Don raised two sons as a single custodial parent and now has six beautiful grandchildren.
