Episode 9 - All of My Siris

Gilbert is sick as hell, but he and Kyle still manage to tie up a bunch of loose ends.

Show Notes

OS X Daily on downloading your Flickr library

Yale Assure Smart Lock with August Connect

The CHIP smart home standard that we'll believe when we see it

Apple's iPhone XS/Max Smart Battery Case replacement program

Apple announces new repair partnership with Best Buy, which is just nuts but also understandable

Macs might be getting a Pro Mode

Marco Arment on Low Power Mode for portable Macs

Go full MKBHD with dBrand

Right about here is when Gilbert says something so vile even he agrees to edit it out

The Note 10+ has an AMOLED display

VP9 Compression

It's not Sense UI, it's ONE UI2 or whatever

Cydia

The Q19 Max fake AirPods are so fake they've already been taken down from Amazon

So far we're liking our new audio interface, the PreSonus Quantum, but time will tell

Our Shure Beta 87A, which is a great all-around mic

The classic Electro-Voice RE-20

The world's worst shock mount

No, seriously, by this point in the show Gilbert was falling apart from the flu

The ultra-popular SM7B (be careful because you'll want an adapter if you're using it with a Blue Compass Boom Arm)

And for good measure, the famous workhorse SM58

Note that the reason we could hear it was quieter is because we monitor via Audition at the end of the signal chain

The CloudLifter is dope and very highly regarded. It's fairly quiet, and if you don't have a high-end audio interface that can drive the SM7B or RE-20 or a similar power-hungry dynamic microphone, you'll definitely want something like this to bring up your gain without introducing more noise from your mic preamps.

Toggl, Timery, and RescueTime (Note: This is not a recommendation. We still have a lot to learn about RescueTime.)

MusicBot, an insanely powerful Apple Music thingy by Federico Viticci

Matthew Cassinelli from the original Workflow app team

Sonos ending support for older speakers (since updated, which we'll address in episode 10)

Sonos and other small players talk to the U.S. congress about big companies making things difficult for them

Podcast Movement Evolutions (because why the fuck not?)

We'll be covering the Ken Burns MasterClass (maybe you can save some money)

Bother Kyle
