Almost everything is getting better, so why do people think things are getting worse?

Polls consistently show that people across the western world are much more likely to think that things are getting worse than better, when in fact by almost every measure (life expectancy, poverty rates, child morality rates, access to medicine and resources, literacy rates, etc) things have improved at a historically unprecedented rate in recent times. In this episode we discuss this, and consider whether people's perceptions have been skewed by the prevalence of a particular form of anti-developmental, anti-growth outlook that some on the left and green wings of politics subscribe to.
