Bio

Brian Robinson Jr. attended Hillcrest High School in Alabama. He didn’t get to play until his senior year, where he rushed for 990 yards and 18 touchdowns. After High School, Robinson stayed close to home and committed to the University of Alabama as a four-star recruit (ranked as the eighth-best running back)

College

Brian Robinson Jr. played for the Alabama Crimson Tide for five seasons (extra year of eligibility because of COVID). In those five seasons, he was the starter for only his last season. He totaled 2,697 rushing yards and 29 rushing touchdowns in 55 games. He added 446 receiving yards and 2 receiving touchdowns on 53 catches.

In his only season as a starter for the Crimson Tide, Brian Robinson Jr. had 306 touches, 1,632 scrimmage yards, and 16 touchdowns. As such he was clearly a big part of the Alabama offense in the 2021 NCAA football season.

In the CFP semi-finals against the Cincinnati Bearcats, Brian Robinson Jr. might have seen his draft stock rise for the 2022 NFL Draft after he rushed for a career-high 204 yards on 26 carries.

NFL Outlook

Rookie Running Back Brian Robinson Jr. might have seen his 2022 NFL Draft stock rise

When it comes to the NFL and the 2022 NFL Draft, Brian Robinson Jr. probably won’t be going off the board early. The RotoHeat team believes he should be selected somewhere between round four and round six of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Brian Robinson Jr. is going to be a bruising runner, and one of the more physical rookie running backs. Robinson Jr. is a very big back, and he knows it! He is using his size to bully oncoming tacklers and to drag defenders with him. If he gets to the second level, he can often punish defensive backs and run through them.

As a runner, Brian Robinson Jr. is a one-cut runner with decent vision, a good amount of power but lacking in the speed department. He’s a decent catcher of the football, but his lack of speed means he’s pedestrian as a pass-catcher out of the backfield. Most NFL teams will likely have better passing options at RB than what Brian Robinson Jr. can provide.

Where Brian Robinson Jr. excels is as an early-down pounder, as a strong, big-bodied thumper who will gain the tough yards between the tackles. This can be both a good and a bad thing for Robinson Jr.

As NFL teams will probably be hesitant to use Robinson on third down and in obvious passing situations, that will limit his upside and snap count. He is not great at identifying oncoming blitzers in pass pro, which means he is unlikely to be on the field for those situations, despite his big frame.

The biggest knock that the RotoHeat team has on upcoming rookie running back Brian Robinson Jr is his lack of speed. He cannot consistently beat linebackers to the edge. This means that his 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine is going to be extremely important to how NFL general managers evaluate him for the 2022 NFL Draft. But with a strong CFP semi-final showing, Brian Robinson Jr. might have impressed some scouts and GMs, meaning that his draft stock could be on the rise.
