Dr. Dale Yake joined Dukes & Bell to take about the injury to Tua Tagovailoa on Saturday.

Yake explained what the actual injury was that Tua suffered.

“This is a medical emergency; it’s one of the few in orthopedics.” Yake said “The only other that’s worse than this is when bone comes through the skin we’ve all heard of that, this is one of those injuries that on Saturday they had to rush him because the longer time this thing is dislocated and what I mean by dislocated is you take the hip joint which goes into a socket that almost looks like a bowl and you push it out the back of the bowl and you break part of the bowl off and you push the socket out as well. That’s what happened to him on Saturday, it’s a medical emergency because of the blood flow.”

How long will it be before we see Tua on a football field again.

“No, very doubtful, and again I don’t know what procedure they did yesterday I can’t give you the full detail because they’re not releasing that but I will tell if it is what I described earlier with the fixation of the socket this guy should be out for a year.” Yake said “He’s gonna be six to twelve weeks of partial weight bearing and just with that it puts him out at the end of the year, so now we’re talking how does he get ready for the combine and does he even want to go and display his wears, for surely not. Then does he get ready for the pro day, I suggest he’s probably not going to do any of those things, he’s probably not going to play for Alabama again but does he set himself up better set himself up for the 2021 draft with being able to perform at a combine or a pro day workout. This suggestion that he maybe gets the drafted in the second round like a Jaylon Smith there’s that argument and maybe he gets picked up by a better team then he would otherwise but here’s the problem, but here’s the problem he’s giving up $25 million by not being picked up in the first round at least, now because of the concern over the blood flow and if the blood flow is not good and he starts having a chronic hip he runs the risk of not getting to a second contract.”
