We are in an image conscious society. Every day we're bombarded with images and ideals that culturally are the accepted norms for what beauty is. The way others appear on the outside has us immediately forming an opinion about them, without knowing anything about them as a person. Their weight, skin color, clothes, hair or height all come into play and have a judgment attached to them, and that judgment is automatic, without realizing we do it.

We have it that women and men should look a certain way. But what way is that?

In this week’s show The Dudes will take on appearance and how some people are turning the norm on it’s head. From plus size models on the cover of sports illustrated to men & women refusing to accept what the media tells us and our youth what beautiful is.

Joining the Dudes in studio is Sulma Arzu-Brown, Author of Bad Hair Does Not Exist!, a new bilingual book that encourages young Black, Afro-Latino, and multi-racial girls to see themselves, and their hair, as beautiful. She wrote the book in response to her own daughter’s struggles with not liking how she looked.
