As we come to an "In Brief" section of the Catechism. We take a moment to reflect on just what we have received as the Deposit of Catholic Faith.

It can be simply defined as follows:

1. The teaching which Jesus gave the apostles that were transmitted orally and in scripture.

2. As it was transmitted in a verbal and written form, both makeup what we as Catholics accept to be the Word of God. Scripture alone is not the entirety of everything God has entrusted to us for faith and practice.

3. Both Tradition and Scripture are what we receive from the Church to guide us in what we are to think and do. Both form the basis for how we are to live and be Catholic Christians.

4. This "Deposit" is what Catholics everywhere accept, contemplate and live as the true faith. It is always recognized even where parts are rejected that this is that which we have that is authenticly Catholic.

5. The sole source from which we can determine just how any of this Deposit is to be lived or believed comes from the teaching office of the Church and not from false teachers, prophets or individuals who are not part of the Magisterium of the Catholic Church .... that is, only the pope and the bishops united with him and no others.
