Josh Parker – The Triunity of God
The triunity of God – as one in essenec but three in person – is the most unique attribute of the Christian God. It is also the most likely for Christians to drift in to heresy when they try to explain it.
How would you explain the Trinity? And why is it important?
Trinitarian Heresies
God is One
God is Three
The Son is God
The Spirit is God
Our Response
Athanasian Creed
“Whoever desires to be saved should above all hold to the catholic
[the true Christian church of all times and all places] faith. Anyone
who does not keep it whole and unbroken will doubtless perish
eternally.
Now this is the catholic faith:
That we worship one God in trinity and the trinity in unity,
neither blending their persons
nor dividing their essence.
For the person of the Father is a distinct person,
the person of the Son is another,
and that of the Holy Spirit still another.
But the divinity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is one,
their glory equal, their majesty coeternal.
What quality the Father has, the Son has, and the Holy Spirit has.”
Baptist Larger Catechism
“There is but one [God] only: the living and true God. Yet, there are
three persons in the Godhead: the Father, the Son, and the Holy
Spirit. These three are one true, eternal God – the same in
substance, and equal in power and glory – although distinguished
by their personal properties.”
