What is your risk? I understand that many of you understand what risk is as it may pertain to your facility. Wesley and I are going to go a little deeper. Another way to look at it is that we are going to peel back some of the layers and go deeper.

Let me put it to you this way and why Wesley and I are partnering together and why we are talking about risk. It's really easy I for one see it differently as does Wesley. Since my daughter drowned over 26 years later, for the most part, there have been so many improvements when it comes to water safety and drowning prevention if you want to understand what we're talking about listening to this episode or click the link below and listen to the PSA we did for the Club Industry.

It's like this the public and your facility do not mix. I would say that it's like Oil & Vinegar you can shake it up and it mixes together but then separates with one layer on top of the other. Aquatics is very much the same. I'm a father who expected a certain level of competency and protection but my daughter drowned 8 feet in front of a lifeguard. The aquatics industry expects a certain level of competency and understanding of the risks associated with being around water. But parents and children don't know what you know and don't believe that an accident will happen to them. It's not that they don't believe that these things will happen it just won't happen to them. So they don't mix and shouldn't be together but if you mix them up they will work together much better. It's the same when you go to an unguarded facility or lake, river or pond. They should be a level of understanding of the risk but again it's not there at the level that aquatic professional believes it should be.

I know you and who you are those that really want to decrease the numbers of drownings. Let me say that many of you lose sleep at night because you are afraid that you'll lose someone on your watch. Let me tell you as a parent who did lose a child on someone's watch. It's Not Your Fault that the number is what they are and you feel powerless to do anything about them. The time for change is NOW!
