The woman behind the revitalization of the Madam Walker Legacy Center, Judith Thomas, joins us to share her story and the past, present, and future of the Madam Walker Legacy Center. Although Judith’s story begins in Gary, Indiana, her lineage is from the south. While researching her family, she discovered their painful history. Accordingly, since she also learned strong leadership skills from her trailblazing mother, Judith has continually taken leadership roles to improve her community. Including the Director of Convention Services at Visit Indy for over 13 years and as an active board member for numerous local organizations. She’s passionate about educating people about the realities African American’s have faced throughout history, from slavery to redlining and gentrification of neighborhoods. Tune in to learn about Madam Walker’s impact in Indianapolis, why her manufacturing plant became a hub for African American culture, and the plans behind its revitalization. Drink deep of the culture that surrounds you this week with Judith Thomas from Madam Walker Legacy Center.
