January is a glum time, especially at the theater. The first calendar month of the year gets a bad reputation as a dump month and with good reason. Movie studios celebrate the new year by releasing their worst leftover films into theaters. Yet, a few gems do slip through the cracks. That's why our latest Double Edged Double Bill is all about films released in January. Our good feature is City of God, the multiple Oscar nominated sprawling coming of age crime film that dramatizes the lethal criminal underground of the slums in Rio. Our bad feature is Torque, a parody and/or rip off of Fast and the Furious where we're not sure who is in on the joke. It's hard to tell the difference, ain't it? Well, tune in now for Ice Cube's anguish, an elaborate John Travolta discussion and our picks for next week's episode!
