Welcome to our first ever Diva 101 episode - a recurring series where we give an introduction to divas that we all need to know. And to kick things off, we’re talking the Queen of Soul: Ms. Aretha Franklin. In this part 1 episode, Angie and Steffi go through the timeline of Aretha’s illustrious career, and discuss divas/divos that influenced her and divas that she would later influence.

Our Diva 101 episodes are a general overview of a classic diva’s career and a very basic introduction to the diva. These OG divas helped define how we think of the term “diva”. They are the blueprints. The architects. And without them, a lot of the divas that we talk about would cease to exist. (Le gasp!) The goal of Diva 101s is to introduce a diva and give a general overview of who they are: their influences, their career, who they would eventually go on to influence, and most importantly, why they matter in the Diva Pantheon.
