I recently had a terrible client call in which he (a recruitment owner) lambasted contingency search since "so many clients were not serious". Ironically, he was also one of those clients, which I revealed during the call.

Whether you do contingent or retained, you should carefully vet out the seriousness and commitment of the client to fill to the role versus sending you on a wild goose chase. Even for retained, you want to avoid this situation bc our game isn't to collect part of the fee... It's to get the whole enchilada.

And you're not going to get anything if your client is just shootin' their shot and going on a fishing expedition on your boat. Do not let these clients get outta control. In this podcast, I share the sound bites and word tracks to use to gauge their seriousness for you to get paid.
