In Parshat Balak, Balaam tries to curse the Jewish people, but, as the Talmud teaches us (Sanhedrin 105b), God transformed Balaam's curses into blessings. The most famous of those blessings is "how goodly are your tents Jacob, your sanctuaries Israel" - a statement uttered each morning as we enter our synagogues for prayers.
