The administration will temporarily suspend some forms of legal immigration. The pause is in effect for 60 days and could be extended. President Trump said the policy is designed to give people already in the country less competition in the job market and lower the demand on the US healthcare system. 

The policy change applies to those seeking green cards and won’t impact seasonal farm labor. 

The US Senate passed a coronavirus relief bill today includes funding for small businesses, hospitals and testing. Treasury Secretary Secretary Steve Mnuchin said, “This is a real example of the country coming together to fight this virus.”

The president said he sees light at the end of the tunnel. “You can’t break the country. At some point you have to go back.”
