Dr. Rainer Spanagel is a professor of psychopharmacology at the Central Institute of Mental Health (Mannheim) of Heidelberg University, where he is director of the Institute of Psychopharmacology. The institute’s work centers on the animal experimental and translational research of alcohol and drug addiction. Dr. Spanagel also studies how addictive behavior can occur with other psychiatric disorders, specifically anxiety, depression, and ADHD, as well as conducting research on social exclusion and borderline personality disorders.
