Suave & Kevin had privilege to interview Kimberly Woodson about her life, work as a reformer & advocate as well as the current problems in the Michigan criminal justice system. Kimberly is the founder of Redeeming Kimberly, a nonprofit that helps returning citizens. She is a former juvenile lifer who served 29 years in the Michigan Dept of Corrections. Since her release in 2017, she has been very active standing up to the injustice in the penal system.
Death By Incarceration is a show about life behind bars. The USA is the only nation where a minor can be sentenced to die by incarceration before turning 18. A minor can’t vote, can’t serve in the military, can’t drink or smoke, but they CAN go to prison for the rest of their lives.
Each week, hosts David "Suave" Gonzalez (Suave podcast/released lifer) & Kevin McCracken (Adulting Well podcast) will be joined by law-makers, community leaders, policy-makers, formerly incarcerated and the currently incarcerated as they shed light on institutions that viciously target and harm marginalized communities, specifically communities of color.
