Welcome to DEATH BY ADAPTATION, a bi-weekly book club where we choose one classic book and compare and contrast it against its cinematic adaptations.

In this episode, we discuss the 1992 pulp novel RUM PUNCH by Elmore Leonard, and the 1997 film adaptation by Quentin Tarantino, titled JACKIE BROWN. We talk about the gender politics of the novel, Leonard's cinematic storytelling, the perfect casting of Pam Grier and Robert Forster, and Tarantino's reverence for blaxploitation filmmaking.
