Everlasting Father
He Will Be Called
December 22, 2019
Well, the weather outside has certainly turned a bit frightful - and so is the news, the Keizer traffic, and my to-do list - but all that aside, there is so much about this season that really is delightful! If your holiday season has been a bit short on delight and overstocked with stress I want to encourage you today. As followers of Jesus, we have so much to celebrate! In a world that is overwhelmingly broken, filled with strife and struggle, we have HOPE! We have reason for joy! In Isaiah 9:2, we read, “The people who walk in darkness will see a great light – a light that will shine on all who live in the land where death casts its shadow.” In the gospel of John, Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Author and pastor John Piper writes, The light of Christ is the brightness of God shining on the retina of the human soul.” It was a very dark time in Israel’s history when God sent His Son to bring light and hope to those who had none. But now, because of Jesus, we no longer have to wander in darkness; we have HOPE.

I’m Chris Voigt, Lead Pastor at Dayspring Fellowship in Keizer. Throughout the month of December, we’ve been looking at some of the names for Jesus that we find in the Bible. This week we’re focusing on His title, Everlasting Father. Regardless of your “Dad” experience – good or bad - the word ‘father’ carries a lot of emotional weight. What thoughts come to mind for you when you hear that word? In this message, we take a closer look at what it means for us to have Jesus as our Everlasting Father…the kind who sees us where we are, knows the deepest thoughts of our hearts, and loves us unconditionally.
