A song from my days as a choir boy still thrill my soul at 75. Isaiah 53 and the works of George Frideric Handel's Messiah. I sang much of his work in my teens at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Detroit MI.
Isaiah 53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
"With his stripes we are healed" is not in the chorus as written, but are a separate chorus in Handel's work. I added it to complete the scripture's message of a suffering Priest and Sacrifice, the Lord, Jesus.
