In this episode of Now and Next, we dip into our archives to mark Remembrance Day in Canada.
We feature a documentary produced in November 2009 by Dave Trafford, Jeff Moss, and the late Christie Blatchford. It was broadcast on Newstalk 1010 CFRB in Toronto.
Christie had just published her first book - Fifteen Days: Stories of Bravery, Friendship, Life and Death from Inside the New Canadian Army. It chronicled her experience during 15 of the days she was embedded with Canadian troops in Afghanistan in 2006.
You will hear Christie recall and retell, in her own words, the stories from those 15 days. You'll also hear the voices of the veterans sheobserved during her tour.
Fifteen Days: Stories of Bravery, Friendship, Life and Death from Inside the New Canadian Army was the recipient of the 2008 Governor General's Award for literary fiction.
Embedded in Kandahar won the Edward R. Murrow Award for Excellence in Radio Documentary.
