From the West Indies to West Africa, Reggae has spread to many countries across the world, often incorporating local instruments and joining with other styles. In 1973, the film The Harder They Come starring Jimmy Cliff was released and introduced Jamaican music to cinema audiences outside Jamaica. Reggae in Africa was much boosted by the visit of Bob Marley to Zimbabwe on Independence Day in April 1980. Nigerian reggae had developed in the 1970s. In South Africa, reggae music has played a unifying role amongst cultural groups in Cape Town. -----
