#1 – From WBOY-TV Clarksburg– It takes a certain skill set that can take up to a lifetime to develop to master the game of chess, but one boy from Morgantown is already moving to claim his title as king.

Seven-year-old Hardy Gu found his love for the game of chess only a year ago after watching his father play. Father Leo Gu said that Hardy’s talents exceeded his own as he found his son making logical moves that he would not have originally thought of.

Hardy ranks in second place in the “under age 8” group division of the International Chess Federation. If he maintains his ranking by April 1, he will have the opportunity to compete in the World Cup U8 this summer in Georgia.

Hardy’s main goal is to be the youngest-ever grandmaster of chess at the age of 11 and the way he’s moving his pieces, he’ll be there in no time.
