The recent data breach at T-Mobile exposed the personal data of 54 million people - not all of them customers of the nation's second-largest mobile carrier. Hackers didn't hit the company with ransomware but they are shopping for buyers for as much as $270,000 worth of bitcoin. As much as anything, the breach has raised serious questions about how much data businesses collect and keep, whether they need it or not, and whether or not it's worth the risk.
