Our ICU unit is filled (12 beds) w/ covid19 patients all on vents.
Essex County in New Jersey - essentially a suburb of New York City.
What seems to be the age range for this that you are seeing?
My subgroup of physicians are on standby to treat ventilated patients.
You have 50 and 40 year olds that are here and 1 younger patient has died but they had many underlying health issues.
They have had several come off the vent and are what we call ‘idle’ patients.
There are middle aged people on vents but they won’t die, it is just a question when we can get them off the vents.
Different flues behave differently.
A lot of this has to do w/ how your body reacts to bugs.
Ultimately if you don’t have preexisting health issues, you come out of this if your immune system is healthy.
Your lungs become more difficult to expand.
