The Declaration of Independence begins with the words---We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--The grievances against the crown were many, and those in this new land had had enough. Yes, the chains that shackled the colonies to Great Britain were being broken. To gain this freedom there was a price to be paid and our founders knew that. As a matter of fact, the Declaration closes with these words---And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.--How many of us listening right now would take that same pledge - our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor-- These 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence were concerned by their posterity.
