In this episode of Creative Guts, co-hosts Laura Harper Lake and Sarah Wrightsman talk with visual artist Mike Howat! Mike is primarily a painter, exploring the themes of urbanization, Americana, and collective memory. Like Creative Guts, Mike is passionate about growing the art scene in New England. He dabbles in curating and works with the Kimball Jenkins School of Art, where he teaches classes and workshops, and the Rochester Museum of Fine Arts, where he is a member of the advisory committee. A Concord resident, Mike regularly exhibits at Kelley Stelling Contemporary and Mill Brook Gallery.

In this episode, you’ll hear from Mike why he gravitates toward the colors he chooses and what he’s exploring next. Mike shares the challenges and triumphs of curating art shows and why it is important to provide exhibition opportunities to emerging artists, building a more vibrant and diverse creative community!
